Dan Foley, owner of Foley Mechanical, has recently been featured on 106.7 The Fan’s The Sports Junkies and as a contributing writer for PHC News.

Dan’s latest PHC News feature, “2026 Heating Season Preview”, was published on August 3, 2026. Written for plumbing, heating and hydronics professionals, the article covers issues that also affect homeowners, architects, property managers and building owners throughout the DMV.

A few highlights from Dan’s article include:

Specialized boiler and radiant expertise matters. Older homes and custom properties may rely on boilers, radiators, steam or hydronic heating systems. These systems need careful evaluation, not a one-size-fits-all replacement.

Industry consolidation is changing the service market. Larger home-service companies can provide scale, but that does not always mean experience with complex boiler, radiant-floor or custom-home systems.

Heating projects require whole-system thinking. A boiler replacement should account for piping, radiation, controls, water temperatures, venting and the building itself. Replacing one piece of equipment without reviewing the full system can lead to comfort or performance issues.

Commercial water-heater planning is becoming more important. Future high-efficiency replacements may involve new venting, condensate drainage and mechanical-room considerations. Owners are better served by planning ahead rather than waiting for an emergency.

Heat pump water heaters are not a universal fit. They can be an effective option, but the property needs suitable airflow, drainage, electrical capacity and maintenance access.

The main takeaway is simple: complex heating and water-heating systems deserve thoughtful planning. Whether a property needs repair, modernization or replacement, the right approach depends on the building, the existing equipment and the owner’s long-term goals.
